Rector of Undana Requests Academic Community to Uphold Pancasila Values

KUPANG – Rektor, Prof. Dr. drh. Maxs U. E. Sanam, M.Sc minta civitas akademika dan pegawai Universitas Nusa Cendana (Undana) mengamalkan nilai-nilai pancasila dalam mengemban tugas dan tanggung jawab. Demikian Rektor Undana saat menyampaikan sambutan pada Peringatan Hari Kesaktian Pancasila 1 Oktober yang dilaksanakan di Halaman Gedung Rektorat Undana, Senin (2/10/2023).

Present at the event were the leadership team of Undana, including Vice Rector I, Prof. Dr. drh. Annytha I. R. Detha, M.Si, Vice Rector II, Dr. Paul G. Tamelan, M.Si, Vice Rector III, Dr. Siprianus Suban Garak, M.Sc, and Vice Rector IV, Prof. Dr. Jefri S. Bale, ST., M.Eng. Also in attendance were the leadership teams of faculties, postgraduate programs, institutions, offices, and technical units within the Undana community, as well as representatives from students, faculty members, and staff.

Undana Rector, Prof. Dr. Drh. Maxs U. E. Sanam, M. Sc, stated in his address that this ceremony is a part of practicing the values of Pancasila. "Certainly, Pancasila is not just meant to be memorized, but it is about how we implement it in our lives," emphasized Prof. Maxs.

"As citizens, observing the political landscape of Indonesia heading towards the 2024 elections, various issues and movements with their respective interests have emerged. Therefore, if we do not strengthen our commitment to uphold Pancasila, Indonesia could become divided," continued the Undana Rector.

Hence, the education sector must take the lead and set an example in practicing Pancasila. "We must implement and demonstrate the elements of a just and civilized humanity," he added.

Prof. Maxs also mentioned that in this digital age, supported by the massive growth of social media, we can clearly see people using language that goes against the values of human decency and contradicts the principles of Pancasila.

This should be the most important lesson for higher education institutions. "As an educational institution, Nusa Cendana University must not only educate and produce intelligent individuals but also nurture educated youth with morals and steadfastness to continue preserving the unity of the Indonesian nation," concluded the Undana Rector.
