Commemoration of Youth Pledge: Together Advancing Indonesia

KUPANG – "As we know that every October 28th, we always celebrate the commemoration of Youth Pledge Day (Hari Sumpah Pemuda or HSP). This moment reminds the Indonesian nation of the history of collaboration among all elements of youth who successfully spread the spirit of patriotism and united the national vision in the Youth Pledge of 1928. This pledge gave birth to a national commitment: shedding blood for one homeland, Indonesia; being one nation, Indonesia; and upholding the language of unity, Bahasa Indonesia."

Thus, Undana Rector Prof. Dr. drh. Maxs U. E. Sanam, M.Sc, as the ceremony leader, conveyed the written speech of the Minister of Youth and Sports (Menpora), Ario Bimo Nandito Ariotedjo, during the Youth Pledge Day commemoration ceremony at the Undana Rectorate Courtyard on Monday, September 30, 2023, in the morning.

The government of the Republic of Indonesia has extensively opened the participation of young men and women, the youth of Indonesia today have gone hand in hand in realizing the future hopes of Indonesia together. Inclusivity in the ecosystem of cross-generational collaboration has built collective optimism that now young people have a respected place in national development.

"The position of Indonesia is indeed in the process of solving issues such as corruption, poverty, unemployment, narcotics, pornography, hoaxes, hate speech, and several other national problems. But all of these are not reasons for young people to stop advancing towards an advanced Indonesia and creating a just and prosperous society," wrote the Minister of Youth and Sports.

On the other hand, the latest technological advancements and the rapidly accelerating flow of information create disparities in technology and information literacy between generations. This is also reflected in socio-cultural, political, and even contested business structures.

"We need to ask whether artificial intelligence has been optimally used on a massive scale. Balancing this acceleration and change alone is overwhelming. In essence, the mastery of technology and information by young people, as well as digital literacy, is something that needs to be taken seriously," said the Rector of Undana, quoting the Minister of Youth and Sports' remarks.

"Therefore, every young person needs to have a vision, mission, and strategic role for the next 30 years so that development can progress more rapidly. The most effective strategy is through mutual assistance across generations and collaboration across sectors," emphasized the Rector of Undana, reflecting the Minister of Youth and Sports' sentiments.

"Because this collaborative work is in accordance with the mandate of Law Number 40 of 2009 concerning Youth and also in accordance with Presidential Regulation Number 43 of 2022 concerning Cross-Sectoral Coordination of Youth Service Implementation to ensure the effective implementation of cross-sectoral coordination towards achieving the Youth Development Index (IPP), on this Youth Pledge Day, we must declare the determination of all stakeholders, including ministries and institutions, provincial governments, district and city governments, youth organizations, communities, and other elements," stated the Rector of Undana.

"Dear brothers and sisters, finally, let us make the momentum of the 95th Youth Pledge Day a moment to ignite the spirit of collaboration in advancing the nation. May the Almighty God always give us strength," concluded the Rector of Undana. (rfl)
