KUPANG - Students of the Medical Education Program, Faculty of Medicine and Veterinary Medicine (FKKH), Nusa Cendana University (Undana), conducted a thematic community service program (KKN) at Oebobo Community Health Center.
There are three main programs implemented by 16 students from the Medical Education Program over a five-week period, namely related to dengue fever (DBD), stunting, and rabies.
"Those three issues have become common problems that are currently being experienced by the people of NTT. The students of KKN FKKH Undana, in collaboration with Puskesmas Oebobo, are working together to address the issues of stunting, rabies, and DBD," said the Head of the KKN Group FKKH Undana, Alsen Diamel Oematan at Puskesmas Oebobo on Friday, November 17, 2023.
"We go to the integrated service posts (posyandu) located in the Oebobo sub-district, engaging the nutrition clinic and health promotion clinic, with complete backing from Dr. Maria, the head of Puskesmas Oebobo," elaborated Alsen Oematan, as documented by victorynews.id.
The objective is to prevent stunting, dengue fever (DBD), and rabies in the Kota Kupang area. The activities are not only educational but also involve direct field practices.
The primary target of these activities is to ensure that the community is aware of and understands how to avoid dengue fever (DBD), rabies, and stunting during the rainy season. Moreover, according to Alsen Oematan, as it is currently the rainy season, the number of DBD cases is expected to rise. Therefore, educating the community on how to prevent DBD is crucial.
Alsen stated that the material provided during the socialization activities is tailored to the specific needs of the local community.
"For example, in Posyandu with many cases of DBD, we educate with materials related to DBD. Then, when we come to Posyandu with many stunted children, we definitely bring materials about stunting, and the same goes for rabies," he explained.
He hopes that through these activities, the community can be educated and obtain clear information regarding the handling of rabies, DBD, and stunting cases.

"Hopefully, the community, especially parents, can be reminded and pay attention to their children to be free from stunting, dengue fever (DBD), and rabies issues," he pleaded.
Head of Oebobo Health Center, Dr. Maria Kurniawati Mari, expressed her appreciation for the thematic KKN activities carried out by students of the Medical Education Program at Undana Kupang.
According to Dr. Maria, thematic KKN activities are very helpful for students to understand the conditions in the field related to the issues of stunting, rabies, and dengue fever.
"The program from Undana's KKN students is excellent, ranging from health promotion, counseling, and health socialization at the integrated service posts (Posyandu) at the community level, related to what stunting, dengue fever (DBD), and rabies are. It greatly helps the community to prevent these issues from an early stage," she explained.
She hopes that the collaboration between Undana's Medical Education Program students and the Oebobo Health Center will continue, providing benefits to the wider community.
"I hope this collaboration yields satisfying results for both parties (the Health Center and the KKN students). Hopefully, these future doctors can learn more in detail beyond theory about the conditions in the field," she expressed.
